E232 – ROSE DE FRANCE
MATERIALS: Blue Calcite, Silver & Freshwater Pearls
I’ve used mysterious, glowing, Rainbow Opals, Thai Hill-Tribe Silver and intriguing Cuneiform inscribed Silver beads to create a most unusual pair of earrings with a fascinating story.
Ugarit, near Latakia, Syria was an ancient cosmopolitan port city, sited on the Mediterranean coast. The Ugarit cuneiforms are the oldest known written language in the world. While traveling in the region on a photography assignment, I found the original of these beads in the market of a small village near the Euphrates River and had them recast in Sterling Silver by my museum casters.
An interesting history of the lore of opals is that they will make you invisible. This may be difficult to prove, although in ancient times this lore was very prominent. Many also believe that opals will help others see your inner beauty as your patience and confidence are heightened when wearing opals. Whew! That’s a lot for a pretty, little blue stone.
You are about to acquire a unique piece of art. The stones were mined by hand and shaped individually by skilled artisans. Every stone is slightly different. The color and texture will vary from stone to stone depending on which mine or source they were derived from. Being one-of-a-kind pieces they will not exactly match each other, or necessarily, the pictures on the site. I try to balance stones as much as possible sorted by color and size. I hope that you will enjoy their individuality and their handcrafted qualities.
